Privacy policy
Last updated: October 19, 2026
Fluent is an app that measures road conditions while you drive. It works with precise location and motion data, so this policy explains plainly what it collects, where that data goes and what you can do about it. Fluent is operated by Brilliance Mobility ("we").
What the app records on your phone
- Location (GPS position, speed and heading) while recording a trip.
- Motion sensors (accelerometer, gyroscope and, where available, the barometer), from which the app works out roughness, bumps, curves, grades and g-forces.
- Your car: the vehicles you add to your garage, and the Bluetooth address and name of a car's audio system once you link it, so trips record which car you were in.
- Settings such as units and alert preferences.
Trips are stored on your phone. Fluent works fully without an account.
What leaves your phone without an account
- Anonymous road data. After a drive, on Wi-Fi, Fluent sends that drive's road measurements to our servers to map road conditions for everyone. These contributions contain no name, account, device, trip or vehicle identifier; the first and last 500 m of the drive are removed; the start time is rounded to the hour; and they are linked only by a random key that changes every 90 days. A road feature is shown to other users only after at least 3 different drivers have recorded it. Contributions can't be traced back to you, so they can't be deleted individually.
- Road names. While recording, the app sends your position to OpenStreetMap's Nominatim service (and, as a fallback, your phone's built-in geocoder) to look up the name of the road you're on.
- Weather. Your position, rounded to about 1 km, is sent to Open-Meteo to record the weather of each trip.
- Maps. Map images are loaded from OpenFreeMap for the area you're viewing.
These services receive the request, including your device's IP address, under their own privacy policies.
If you sign in
Signing in (with Google or an email code) is optional. It lets you sync your trips and garage across your devices and, later, see them on the web.
- We store your email address, your name if your sign-in provider shares it, and the devices you use.
- Your trips (summaries, routes, road events and the detailed per-second measurements) and your garage are uploaded to our servers. Trips you recorded before signing in are uploaded only if you choose to add them to your account.
- Your trips are private to your account. We use them to provide the service to you and to improve how Fluent measures roads.
Where your data is kept
Our servers run on Amazon Web Services in the United States (us-east-1). Data is encrypted in transit and at rest. Sign-in codes are sent by email through Amazon SES.
Sharing
We don't sell your personal information. We share it only with the service providers that run Fluent for us (Amazon Web Services, and Google if you sign in with Google), or where the law requires it.
Your choices
- Delete any trip in the app; if you're signed in, the deletion syncs to our servers.
- Sign out at any time and choose whether to keep your trips on the phone.
- Delete your account in the app; this deletes your trips and garage from our servers. Deleted data is removed from active use at once and permanently erased within 30 days.
- Ask us for a copy of your data, or to correct or delete it, at privacy@fluentride.com.
- Location and Bluetooth access can be turned off in your phone's settings; Fluent can't record without location.
Children
Fluent is meant for drivers and isn't directed at children under 16.
Changes
If we change this policy, we'll update the date above, and tell you in the app if the change is significant.
